Metabolomics profile in depression: a pooled analysis of 230 metabolic markers in 5,283 cases with depression and 10,145 controls

Large-scale meta-analysis of metabolomics and depression including over 15,000 subjects from nine Dutch cohorts revealed clear and distinct profile of circulating lipid metabolites associated with depression.

More specifically, the findings showed that depression is associated with a metabolic signature towards less HDL and more VLDL and triglycerides particles. The finding may open new preventive or treatment opportunities for depression.
