Resistance Training Induces Antiatherogenic Effects on Metabolomic Pathways

This study examined the effects of resistance training intervention on metabolic profile in a total of 86 active and healthy men without previous background systemic resistance training.

Overall, the resistance training intervention resulted in favorable alterations in body composition with increased levels of lean mass, decreased levels of android and and total fat mass. These changes were accompanied by anti-atherogenic alterations in serum metabolome profile as reductions in non-HDL cholesterol and apolipoprotein B, and increased levels of conjugated linoleic fatty acids. Notably, individuals with the poorest baseline status benefitted the most from the resistance training intervention. Resistance training improves cardiometabolic risk factors and serum metabolome even in previously healthy young men.
